In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Ephesians 6:16

This verse was actually pretty easy to memorise following Priscilla Shirer’s session as she touched on each part which really made it easy to recall and commit them to memory.

The two key elements for me in this verse was understanding what it means to live by faith by taking up the shield and to properly understand the flaming arrows of the evil one and their purpose. It’s one thing to believe in something but when that belief translates into action, we move from a simple belief to living by faith which is active. Priscilla gave a great example with a chair: we can say we believe a chair can hold our weight and that is good but until we take that next step in faith to sit in the chair, our belief alone did not accomplish anything.

The second point where I gained understanding was that of the purpose of the devil’s flaming arrows which come to distract us from doing what God has called us to do. When we take up the shield of faith, when we continue to walk out what God is calling us to when we cannot physically see where we are stepping but we refuse to be distracted or waylaid, we keep advancing- this extinguishes all the devils arrows.
