Servants, do what you’re told by your earthly masters. And don’t just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best. Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master you’re serving is Christ. The sullen servant who does shoddy work will be held responsible. Being a follower of Jesus doesn’t cover up bad work. (MSG) Colossians 3:22-25
During my devotions this week, I read the above passage in the Message version and was really challenged by it so I thought I’d spend some time here and memorise this passage. As the Message version does not break down the passage verse by verse I’ll memorise a portion each week which should cover the next month as it’s 4 verses.
So this week I was challenged and reminded to give of my best particularly at work and not give into the temptation to just do enough. Also, I’m not only under the authority of my boss but this pales in comparison to God’s authority which I am ultimately under. I’m incredibly blessed to be called His child and to be under His covering and I aim to take advantage of each opportunity I’m given to give Him my best. God gave me His best when He sent Jesus and He also showcases His best in the beautiful world He created.
I’m encouraged to think of the bigger picture and give God my best in everything I do.
