Servants, do what you’re told by your earthly masters. And don’t just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best. Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master you’re serving is Christ. The sullen servant who does shoddy work will be held responsible. Being a follower of Jesus doesn’t cover up bad work. (MSG) Colossians 3:22-25
Happy New Year to all!
December was extremely hectic for me so although I tried to keep up with my weekly bible memorisation, I fell behind in my posts. I’ll therefore spend these first couple of weeks in 2018 completing my last 3 posts for the challenge.
So finishing off this passage in Colossians 3, my focus is on the last two sentences: The sullen servant who does shoddy work will be held responsible. Being a follower of Jesus doesn’t cover up bad work.
These statements are a sobering reminder, we are responsible for our work, good or bad. When we give God our very best, we can be content in what we do for God. We ensure that we are motivated by our love for God and this is evidenced in our work. For shoddy work we produce, we are also responsible and being a Christian does not exempt us from this responsibility. Jesus came to free us from the power of sin and in Him we have access to abundant life. We are called to live lives that honour our God and are responsible for our choices and decisions.
Let us resolve in our hearts to give God our best because He deserves it!
